El Tapatio, nestled in the heart of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, is a vibrant Mexican restaurant, bar, and grill that offers an authentic taste of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine with a welcoming and lively atmosphere. From the moment you step inside this cozy eatery on South Wood Drive, you’ll be greeted by warm hospitality and the tantalizing aromas of freshly prepared dishes that invite you to indulge in a truly satisfying dining experience.
The menu at El Tapatio is a celebration of Mexican flavors, featuring an impressive variety of classic dishes crafted with care. Among the standout offerings, the Jennifer Special is a must-try—grilled chicken topped with luscious cheese sauce, sautéed onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms, served alongside warm flour tortillas and savory rice. For those craving something heartier, the Chile Colorado presents tender beef chunks simmered in a rich red sauce accompanied by traditional rice, beans, and fresh tortillas. The Fajitas Jalisco and Steak Fajitas are perfect for sharing, sizzling with tender meats, peppers, and onions, offering a feast for both the eyes and palate.
El Tapatio shines when it comes to appetizers too. The Poblano Dip, a fried poblano pepper stuffed with chorizo and shredded cheese draped in a decadent cheese sauce, is paired with rice and tortillas to create a delightful start to your meal. Fans of lighter bites can enjoy homemade chips with creamy guacamole, spicy mesquite dip, or classic cheese quesadillas. Each appetizer bursts with freshness and layers of flavor that set the tone for the robust dishes to follow.
To complement your meal, El Tapatio boasts a tempting selection of beverages. Their margaritas, including the famously refreshing frozen Margarita, and handcrafted cocktails like the Long Island Iced Tea, offer a perfect balance of sweetness and tang that pair wonderfully with spicy, savory Mexican dishes.
Many patrons rave about the genuine friendliness and knowledge of the staff, who are always ready to assist with menu recommendations or help customize orders to suit your taste preferences. As customer Christopher joyfully shared, the waiter’s suggestion of the Nachos Locos led him to a newfound favorite Mexican dish, praising the flavor-packed, generous portions that keep him eager for his next visit.
While the restaurant’s cozy size may amplify the lively buzz during peak hours, it also adds to the authentic local atmosphere—where laughter and the clink of glasses create a cheerful, communal dining experience. Nathan Lambardi appreciated the fresh, fast service and clean environment, paired with expertly crafted drinks and large portions that guarantee great value.
Whether you are seeking a casual night out with friends, a family dinner filled with rich, hearty flavors, or simply a comforting meal that transports you south of the border, El Tapatio is a standout choice in Okmulgee. The hand-crafted, flavor-driven dishes and attentive service combine to create a memorable and genuine Mexican dining adventure you’ll be eager to revisit again and again.
First time we ever went to El Tapatio was last week. The atmosphere was nice. The Staff very nice and personable. I asked our Waiter to help me choose between 3 items. He said his favorite is the Nachos Locos. I ordered it and it was AMAZING. I now have a new favorite Mexican food restaurant and a new favorite dish! I can't wait to go back and order Nachos Locos again!
Very nice and helpful when ordering .food fresh fast and restaurant was clean Drinks excellent and large portions Definitely will stop back in again. Thank you
Very good food! Well priced! Friendly staff! Unlike the majority of Mexican places the had a good amount of food and they did not skimp on the meat! The restaurant is very small and thus it amplified the sounds and was very noisy! But overall it was a great experience and I was very satisfied. I will be a returning customer
Very mediocre, but good quality. The flour tortillas are not homemade.
I LOVE this restaurant! The food is fresh and delicious. Homemade chips and salsa are the best. The iced tea is sweetened to perfection. The staff know their menu and are attentive and friendly. Tex mex cuisine with a hint of Mexico. Thanks :)
I'd do 4.5 if I could, but definitely deserves rounding up > down. Stopped in for lunch on a long road trip. Beware the large margarita. It's great, but it's LARGE! Sadly couldn't finish due to the drive ahead. I had the lunch special no. 1 and nothing to critique there. Salsa for the free chips and salsa was pretty mild, but the bottles of tapatio and el yucateco at the table make for an easy solve. Other than ordering more margarita than I could handle, no regrets.
